I could be a little dramatic and say that this is the beginning of a new life but that would be a lie. This isn't the beginning of a new life; if you think about, I've actually been working towards getting a fulltime job with teenagers and it's about freaking time that I realize it. I bitched and complain and truely was having a hard time with school. I couldn't concentrate nearly as well as I should and was basically just getting by without putting in too much effort. Seriously, I know I could have done way better in my classes. Here's the twist. I thought it was because I was just a lazy ass. Now, I don't think so because when I think about it, I'm ready and always willing to work my ass off with the club, girlgroup, the different small jobs that are related to the youth club. I get paid well but there is quite a bit of work that is volunteer and I don't mind. Because I love my job.

I am now officially hired at this new place here in Vejle. I signed the papers on Friday and will be starting Wednesday, Feb. 7. I am able to continue working at my youth club every Monday and Wednesday evening until we close April 1 but I am having to give up some hours with the girlgroup because I will be working Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the new place. The pay isn't the greatest since I'm not educated within this field but I'll be fine. As long as I can pay my bills and get by. Money isn't the main factor; it's all about the experience for me right now. I'm working towards getting into the related school next year with merit and that means I need all the hours I can get. I'm only hired until Dec. 31 because I'm taking over for someone who is on maternity leave but it's definitely better than nothing!

I'm not 100% sure of what I'll be doing. I have 30 hours pr. week and since I'm working evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'm off early the other days. There are kids from 9yrs old to 18 and we're open from around lunch time because sometimes the kids are off school early and need a place to hang out. It's bigger than what I'm used to but the idea is the same. There are computers, tv/dvd, pooltables, airhockey, pingpong, sofa area etc. But at the new place, they also have a music room and a huge craft/art room - super cool! They have the same setup with candy and drinks like we do in Norup except for that they also sell a warm meal everyday, made by us. Yups, I have to cook once a week! I'll admit it, I'm very nervous about that. I'm not nervous about meeting the kids, or getting to know my co-workers - I'm very confident that I'll do fine there. But cooking? Not my strong side! I have warned them that I'm not the most confident in the kitchen but they still hired me so I'm sure it won't be a big deal.

So far, the people I've met seem really nice and I think I'll fit in just fine. New jobs are always scary and I'm very excited in starting. Before I even applied, I wasn't sleeping well because I was trying to figure out what I want in life. When I got called into the interview, I couldn't sleep because I was nervous. After the interview, I couldn't sleep because I was anxious about hearing back from them. Now, I got the job and I'm all set. But I still sleep like crap because I'm thinking about it so much! I'm nuts!

Enough of that. One day at a time, right?

Canada August 2007. Yups, it's going to happen! The entire family will be gathering and spending a couple of weeks together. My grandparents from Ontario, my parents from Sooke, me from DK, my brother from Calgary and my aunt & co. from different parts in the States will all be getting together somewhere to celebrate my grandparent's 60th anniversary on Aug. 25th. I will be landing in Vancouver Aug. 16th and flying out again Sept. 3 and my new job has no problems about me taking an "extra" vacation (We're closed all of July). Pretty cool, eh?

I've been pretty busy lately but I'm loving life! Working at the club and with the girlgroup and that's going very well. Friday evening, I went bowling with Thomas, Claudia, Sussi and Anders. I really suck at bowling! I'm not kidding, I really really really suck. But it was still fun. Thomas and Claudia are getting married in August and they were so sweet! They tried to find a date where I was here in DK so I could be at the wedding but unfortunately, we weren't able to. So, they are getting married Aug. 17 and I'm sure it'll be the party of the year! Bummer I can't be there but I'm happy for them! Saturday evening, Tine came over and we ordered pizza and drank CC/Kult. Mmmmm. Good stuff. We went to the bars later and it turned into a late night. I had a good time and I hope Tine did too! Sunday, I didn't do much. Slepts, worked on some artsy projects. Talk to my parents and little brother on Skype. Anders came over, we ate dinner and watched a movie. A nice quiet day.

Work today. Laundry and dishes too. Nothing all too exciting. I finally borrowed a drill so now I can start putting up some shelves.... (Hey Tine, I'll come over and make some holes in your walls too!) I need more coffee - talk to you all later!

Ok, I know I haven't posted in the last few days and haven't really told anyone much about what I've been doing lately. Let me fill you all in on a little secret....

As most of you already know, I've been fighting with different career oriented decisions. School, more specifically, English BA just wasn't doing anything for me and working with teenagers was where my heart really is. Anyways, I saw a job opening working at a youthclub and afterschool activities for kids here in Vejle and I decided to take a chance. I applied for the job, not really expecting anything but hoping for something. It's almost a fulltime job - 30 hours pr. week. I got called in for an interview yesterday (Tuesday) and I was nervous! Some serious butterflies had found their way into my stomach. There was a panel of 5 people interviewing me and after an hour of questions and answers, I was pretty sure I blew it. They said if they were interested that I might be called in for a second interview. But that will take a couple of days and the more I thought about it, the more certain I was that I will not get the job.

Ok, I'm 27 yrs old and I have never done this before. Seriously! All the jobs I have had in my Danish life, I have gotten because I was at the right place and the right time and knew the right people. I have never in my life before sent off an application and gone to a formal interview with people I don't already know. It was scary. Since I have been a student most of my life, I've always had school and not a fulltime job, where I actually have to work and earn money for a living. Getting parttime jobs have always been easy for me. Getting a fulltime job was very new.

When I woke up this morning, I decided to not let this bring me down and still work towards my newly realized goals. I have a good life right now and the whole interview process was an experience that I can look back on for next time. My phone rings.....

I got the job!

No second interviews and I already have a meeting with the leader on Friday to sort through all those new job things - pay, vacation etc. Ok, so I haven't signed any papers yet but he said the words - the job is yours if you want it. I got the job! I'm in shock because I was so sure that I didn't get it and that the interview was shit. Of course I'll know way more on Friday but I thought I would let you all in on my little secret.

I have to work at the youth club now so I'll save the rest of the details for a later post.

I'm in the middle of doing a whole bunch of things here at home before I take off to work this afternoon but I thought I would take a short break and say hey. HEY.

Nothing really is new here. Anders is off on a week-long course near Copenhagen and I'm just doing my own thing here in Vejle. Work and School. School and Work. When I allow myself some time off my studies, I've been working on some crafty projects and paintings. A good way to relax and have fun. Yes, I'm a geek.... But I love it! I've also started to read "fun" books again. I missed reading just for fun so I started to read "A Prayer for Owen Meany" - I actually started it for school a couple of years ago but never finished it due to lack of time.

I have the girl group tonight and I sure hope it goes better than last time. We're watching movies and eating pizza so it should be a quiet night. Cross your fingers for me! Work at the youth club is good. We have almost 90 members and around 45 kids came last night. That's a lot of teenagers and there's only me and Karin working!

I went to Ikea with Jonna last Friday and spent way too much money! Well, I've been saving up for an Ikea trip for a while now so it's all good. But now I have shelves for my entire apartment, a new coffeetable and a whole bunch of good stuff. It was a very successful trip and a tonnes of fun spending the day with Jonna! She's only got a month to go before Mathilde comes! I'm so excited for her little family and I can't imagine how they're feeling about their second baby girl!

Anyways, I'm running again. Sorry to everyone about not being good in writing emails and keeping in touch. I've just been really busy with school and work and haven't had much time to be social. I just hope that everyone - Denmark and Canada - is fine and that life is treating them well. I promise, once things quiet down here (hopefully next week!), I will be better in keeping contact!

Well, maybe hate is too strong but still, I'm frusterated right now and I'm willing to use the word hate.

Sorry, I'm just taking a break from studying. I haven't done much lately other than work and study. Yes, I have a lame life at the moment. The youth club is open again and things are good there. I have the girl group again, with some new members and to be honest, my first night with them on Tuesday was hell because of one girl being impossible. One girl can seriously ruin it for the rest of us. I have to talk to her privately about her being impossible because it wasn't fun at all Tuesday and she'll have to choose - either she calms down and has fun with us or she leaves the group. We came up with our plan for the next season - skating, horseback riding, movies, shopping, fashion show, visit a hairsalon, learn how to use makeup, pizza night etc. They weren't at all interested in anything crafty or creative which I thought was disappointing because I had collected together some really fun things to do. Oh well, I can't force them....

School sucks. I'm busy studying for my Origin of Language exam (research seminar) and I'm having a hard time with my own contribution to what I want to talk about. The actual classroom work/studies I'm ok with but I have to come up with my own topic within the field of language evolution and present that.... I have a topic but I'm having a hard time organizing it and getting everything under control. Blah.

I'm taking a break from my studies tomorrow during the day and Jonna and I are going to IKEA! Wonderful store. I have a large list of things I want/need to get including a coffee table and shelves. My apartment will soon be perfect (it's pretty damn close to being perfect now but I always get new ideas of cool stuff!).

I am also in the progress of planning my next trip to Canada. Keep your fingers crossed because it looks like I found a flight out in the middle of August. My grandparents will be celebrating their diamond anniversary - 60 years of marriage!!! You don't see that too often and I will NOT miss this family reunion! The last time the entire family gathered together was probably back in '97, a month or so after I moved to DK, (50th anniversary) so I wasn't able to be there. I haven't seen my grandparents since I was around 14 yrs old which is now around 13 years ago... too many years between visits!

Ok, I think my school frusterations have calmed down so I better get back to work.

My tv is broken! Not that I watched a lot of tv but still, this really sucks. I can't watch tv or hear loud music - it was also my "stereo"...

Heidi and I took a couple of pictures while we were getting ready for our NYE party. The batteries in my camera died so I didn't bring it with me to the party....

Rie has big hair.

I was trying to do something slightly fancy with my big hair and then I gave up.

Heidi is all ready to go! It was cold and rainy outside so we had to remember our sweaters!

My first post of the year...

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you all had a great night and I expect to hear about all your (il)legal activities when things become normal again!

Shauna - Happy Birthday to you girl! Did you have a good day/night? I may not have been there to celebrate your day with you but I was thinking about you and everyone else over there! Someone - post some pictures of the drunken birthday girl!!

My NYE party was good. Dinner went really good and us three had fun cooking together and just talking. It tasted great and we ate so much that we no one had room for bananasplits or for the midnight snack. A job well done to us three! After dinner and a couple of drinks, we went over to Anders' friend's place and joined the others for more drinks and loud music. The boys had fun with their fireworks and were smart enough to light them before it got too foggy, too rainy outside and before they were too drunk. But trust me, after the fireworks, they drank. And all had a good time. We all trooped downtown at around 4am-ish to join the festivities with the rest of the Vejle party-population and even though it was late (or early morning, whichever way you want to look at it), there were still quite a few people doing their party thing. After a single drink, Heidi and I decided to go home. It was late, we were tired and was looking forward to getting some sleep. So at around 5am, we finally got back to the quietness of my apartment - a nice comfy couch and bed. We slept. I had nightmares because Heidi killed someone. I woke up shouting very loudly and then after realizing where I was, I fell back to sleep. Heidi heard nothing which is a good thing because I sure must have sounded like a total freak! No hangovers New Years Day!

There you have it, a quick report of my NYE party. Good thing we don't do this every weekend because it's now Jan 2nd and I'm still sore and tired from all the partying. Things should be back to normal now - people are back to work and back to school. I'm going to school today to pick up some books and will probably take a couple hours there to study. Going to bed early tonight, that's for sure. No work at the club for me this week and that's nice. I'll hate it come February with a shitty paycheck but right now, I'm looking forward to a quiet night.

We did take a couple of pictures of Heidi and I getting ready but I don't have time to upload them now. You'll have to wait! I'll be back again soon!
