Ok, I know I haven't posted in the last few days and haven't really told anyone much about what I've been doing lately. Let me fill you all in on a little secret....
As most of you already know, I've been fighting with different career oriented decisions. School, more specifically, English BA just wasn't doing anything for me and working with teenagers was where my heart really is. Anyways, I saw a job opening working at a youthclub and afterschool activities for kids here in Vejle and I decided to take a chance. I applied for the job, not really expecting anything but hoping for something. It's almost a fulltime job - 30 hours pr. week. I got called in for an interview yesterday (Tuesday) and I was nervous! Some serious butterflies had found their way into my stomach. There was a panel of 5 people interviewing me and after an hour of questions and answers, I was pretty sure I blew it. They said if they were interested that I might be called in for a second interview. But that will take a couple of days and the more I thought about it, the more certain I was that I will not get the job.
Ok, I'm 27 yrs old and I have never done this before. Seriously! All the jobs I have had in my Danish life, I have gotten because I was at the right place and the right time and knew the right people. I have never in my life before sent off an application and gone to a formal interview with people I don't already know. It was scary. Since I have been a student most of my life, I've always had school and not a fulltime job, where I actually have to work and earn money for a living. Getting parttime jobs have always been easy for me. Getting a fulltime job was very new.
When I woke up this morning, I decided to not let this bring me down and still work towards my newly realized goals. I have a good life right now and the whole interview process was an experience that I can look back on for next time. My phone rings.....
I got the job!
No second interviews and I already have a meeting with the leader on Friday to sort through all those new job things - pay, vacation etc. Ok, so I haven't signed any papers yet but he said the words - the job is yours if you want it. I got the job! I'm in shock because I was so sure that I didn't get it and that the interview was shit. Of course I'll know way more on Friday but I thought I would let you all in on my little secret.
I have to work at the youth club now so I'll save the rest of the details for a later post.
